Founded by Genevieve Minick, M.D. & Marion B. Minick in 2007, the vision of Neighbors Teaching Neighbors is to enrich the lives of the people living in the Twin Tiers, and the surrounding Pennsylvania & New York areas. Neighbors Teaching Neighbors rejoices the growing diversity of the Twin Tiers, bringing together neighbors to share and celebrate a wide variety of activities, ideas, information, and skills in supportive informal settings. Neighbors Teaching Neighbors will offer courses that will encourage positive exchange among people from different socioeconomic backgrounds, age groups, cultures, races, religions, physical abilities and sexual orientations.
Neighbors Teaching Neighbors will offer an eclectic assortment of classes for adults and children throughout the year, in fall, winter, spring and summer sessions. Classes will be held in local schools, churches, fraternal lodges, businesses, homes or outdoors at the many surrounding Twin Tiers parks and scenic points of interest. Neighbors Teaching Neighbors classroom ideas will only be limited by our increasingly diverse community’s collective imagination. Our committed classroom instructors will be both educated professionals and ordinary citizens from the Twin Tiers and surrounding areas, people who wish to share their special talents with others. They will be responsible adults and teenagers who firmly believe in positive community oriented exchange.
Various classes, reflecting the diverse interests of the people of the Twin Tiers, will be offered by Neighbors Teaching Neighbors Community Learning Center such as African Drumming, Apple Pie 101, Computers, Contemporary Dance, Getting Your Taxes Done Early, Golfing, Hiking the Gorges, History of the Valley Bike Tour, How to Run for Political Office, Line Dancing, Meditation, Organizing Your Life, Painting & Pottery, Preparing a Résumé, Quilting, Reading Music, Retirement Planning, Sign Language, Sustainable Living, Swim Aerobics to a Healthy Lifestyle, Tai Chi In the Park, Training Your Puppy, Walking-History of the Valley, Yoga, Zoning: Before You Build, etc. As stated before, classroom ideas will only be limited by our increasingly diverse community’s collective imagination.
